Anthony Nachor's Diary

SF State

[15 December 2009]

UPDATE: It has been some time since I posted my last blog update, but, now, great news from San Francisco State University! I have recently read my application status for that university, and I got accepted to that University for the Fall next year! That means, I will be heading to San Francisco daily (more than likely) because that’s where my course is, Urban Studies, and I am ready to go to that school for sure! Also, watch out for my update regarding my application on Sonoma State University for Environmental Planning, and when I get accepted to both, I will put out a survey on which school I shall go to, in your opinion. It was quite a wait for that application to go through, by the way, but yes, I got accepted to San Francisco State!

UPDATE: Due to real financial constraints, and that I have a lot of paperwork to deal with (not excluding finding internships, scholarships, grants, and part-time jobs), I am making this announcement:

I may be backing out of University of California Berkeley, and with that, I will focus more on going back to another community college, this time in San Francisco, and volunteer full time in San Rafael. The proposed schedule I have for UC Berkeley will all be canceled, and I will modify the schedule as a whole to reflect the changes.

I know I had to earn a lot of money, but, I really want to pay everything in full before December since I have some vendetta (bad thoughts) about getting student loans. I, along with my family, have a thought not to pay anything after I graduate because I focus on using the money to buy for the essentials (food, water, accessories) and pay for rent and utilities (although my parents do those), but, I just want to use the money that I can stretch for days.

It has been a hard decision for me to back out of UC Berkeley, but, with money being tight, I believe I have to do it so that I can save money, and potentially, use it for better purposes. I’m not sacrificing a great education, though; I’m just bidding my time to make my tuition go lower. And, when my family has enough funds for me to go to Berkeley, I will reapply all over again, and I will keep you updated throughout my application process.

Keep yourself updated on this page for the latest updates and developments on my track to Berkeley!

[11 August 2009]

Hey guys! I’m seeking help right now, big time, from anyone who can potentially help me go through my first semester/s at UC Berkeley. I forgot to tell you that although I have already passed UC Berkeley, I’m facing a huge financial fiasco: my fall tuition rate stands at a staggering  US$16,376.75, in which if I’m going to pay it staggered, it will amount to US$3,275.35. If only the University had determined that I was a California resident, then I would only pay less than US$5,000, and compare that to my tuition, it’s way too much.

My parents are currently earning way less than that per month (around $5,000), and they use those for basic needs (food, gasoline, rent, utilities, etc.), and we are having a hard time finding that amount of money (the staggered rate) to keep me going to UC Berkeley. I, on the other hand, have a special mental issue, Aspergers Syndrome, in which it is classified as an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), under the IDEA case law 299.80, and although I have that, I really want to keep on learning and developing myself. I have already asked some people out regarding financial aid, but, as I ask them, one said the officer is on vacation, another mentioned that I have limited chances of having financial aid due to my family being an immigrant. I have been going through college for several years, but I have not yet fully graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies (for more information, click here), in which my ultimate goal is to fix the underfunded and underutilized public transportation system in the US.

Now, I want to ask for your help in supporting me go through my college. A donation of at least $10.00 is fine with me, for as long as I can get up to at least $10,000 to let me go through my first semester at Berkeley. I have my own PayPal account (which I can really call my own), and you can deposit any value you can donate so that I can finally earn the money I need for my tuition by clicking on the Donate on the right side of your screen — just remember to place “Donation for Tuition” on the purpose box.

I really want to pursue my dream of being an Urban Planner. With your help, you can make a real difference in my life. Thank you in advance.

You should try to prove residency in the state of CA. You have been working and paying taxes ect., correct?

That question is best handled on IM since it’s not a simple task to explain. It’s a complicated situation that must be addressed in an appropriate forum.

awwww:( but i believe as long u stay firm with your dream of getting into Berkeley, you’ll manage too, someday. Maybe it’s not your time now. God has His own time. Just trust in His will. He has practically better plans for you right now. Take care. God bless:)

Anthony, I ditto the residency comment. Gotta investigate that fully. How long have you lived in CA?

I have been living in CA since April 2006, as a matter of fact. Beyond that, it’s better to discuss it on the phone or via IM because it is indeed a complicated matter to discuss online.

I guess this means it depends on your visa type and if you can be considered financially independent or not. Way too complicated….

I have seen that, and if you want to discuss that further, I can do that on the phone. It’s a way complicated process to go through, and I’m going through every immigrant’s nightmare right now: waiting for the so called “priority date”. More details when I phone or IM you.
